What is The Urantia Book?

The Urantia Book is a theological narrative about Jesus.

Introduction

The book contains 2,000 pages describing the structure and administration of our universe which he created, and the origin and history of life on our world—the world on which he incarnated to reveal the nature of God.

The book's 700 page narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus has been called "a masterpiece of religious literature," and, "the most spiritually compelling biography of Jesus ever written."

The Urantia Book provides an authoritative overview of human history which illuminates and revitalizes the archetypal stories of Christian civilization – Lucifer's rebellion against the universe government, Adam and Eve's attempt to salvage the planet, Melchizedek and Abraham, John the Baptist, and the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

The book outlines the evolution of religion in our world and reviews the various world religions relative to the teachings of Jesus as well as providing in-depth perspectives on religious philosophy.

An extensive universe cosmology commensurate with our rapidly expanding understanding of astronomy and the material universe provides context for understanding not only the role of Jesus in universe evolution, but a reassuring perspective on eternal life and human destiny. Geological and biological evolution are portrayed as creation taking place in time.

The Urantia Book

The Urantia Book was given to the peoples of our planet in order that we might learn of God's relationship to us, our relation to the universe, and the nature of our destiny. We are here in accordance with a plan of infinite scope which involves the perfection of an entire universe of inhabited worlds. Each of us is privileged to play a unique and irreplacable role in the continuing evolution of all creation.

The Purpose of Life

The purpose of our initial lives on earth is to begin becoming oriented to life in the universe, to becoming more attuned to the indwelling guiding spirit of God, the Father's love incarnate in the mind of each of us. Our spiritual growth develops as we exercise faith and trust in his leading and goodness. It manifests itself in unselfish service to our fellows on earth. Sincere and persistent prayer to and worship of the Father creates a living connection with reality which makes our survival certain. True immortality is attained when we become one with his indwelling spirit, a process which may extend beyond this first life on our planet of origin. The highest human values of truth, beauty, and goodness represent our best understanding of God's attitude, but first and foremost, he is a loving Father.

Personality in the Universe

Personality is a gift from the Father bestowed upon evolutionary mortal creatures, making each of us unique, both here and hereafter. Our souls grow as we follow the leading of his inner spirit. Relationships between personalities in a universe of constant change form the foundations of enduring reality. Everything that comes into existence--from the Paradise Trinity down to our human families-- comes into existence as a repercussion of relationships between persons. Our citizenship in the cosmos becomes increasingly real as we allow the love of God to rule our relationships.

We are resurrected after this life in order to begin our real education and the long and fascinating journey of discovery and adventure to the center of the universes where we eventually will stand in the actual presence of the Universal Father who has made all of this possible, and from which place, after a time, he will send us forth to serve in new universes of his making.

The Urantia Book is constructed from a compilation of the most insightful human thinking over the past 2,000 years in science, philosophy, and religion, edited with commentary by a group of superhuman personalities directed by the Ancients of Days.
